Get fit at Lake Lorraine

It’s January and many New Year’s resolutions involve being healthier. Lake Lorraine has several options to get fit and stay fit year-round.

Two fitness centers call Lake Lorraine home: Anytime Fitness and Hotworx. Both are located on the west side of the development on Marion Road. And both have great joining specials to start off the year:

Anytime Fitness

Anytime Fitness Manager Cat Fowler said their January “Join for a Dollar” sale saves more than $115. Every new member gets a free fitness consultation with an Anytime Fitness trainer to help set fitness and nutrition guidance based on the member’s goals.

Equipment includes: treadmills, ellipticals, exercise cycles, adaptive motion trainers, lateral trainers, stair climbers, rowing machines, free weights, power racks, 360 training systems

Anytime Fitness also offers free fitness consultations, body composition scanning, health plan discounts, wellness programs and the AF App with personalized workouts, community board and scheduling.

In addition to training, the studio features safe, secure 24-hour access with convenient parking and access to any other Anytime Fitness gym.

“Our tip for beginners is to just start! Make that first step and come on in and we will take it from there,” Fowler said. “We are welcoming and we want all of our members to succeed. We offer instructions and guidance for any equipment, just ask! We are always happy to help.”

Looking for motivation beyond January? Anytime Fitness does  all kinds of challenges to keep members engaged beyond January, Fowler said.

Hotworx

Hotworx is a one-of-a-kind workout experience using infrared heat. It is a virtually instructed exercise program created for users to experience the many benefits of infrared heat absorption, while completing a 30-minute isometric workout or 15-minute High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) session. As the infrared heat penetrates your body causing you to sweat, the isometric postures further accelerate detoxification by physically removing the toxins from your organs through muscle contraction.

General Manager Trice Crump recommends new members start at their own pace until their body adjusts to the heat and different sessions. New members can join in January for $1. A number of insurance plans and employers are eligible for discounts.

“We make sure every member has a tour, a free session and we answer any questions they may have in regard to any of the sessions and equipment used in any particular sauna,” Crump said.

Each month members can participate in Warrior Challenges, which have different workouts that each member needs to complete. Members turn the completed cards in at the end of the month to be included in a monthly drawing for prizes.

“This is a big hit for all our members and keeps everyone accountable,” Crump said.

Flow and Paddle

Flow and Paddle offers exclusive access to recreation on Lake Lorraine with stand-up paddleboards, kayaks and pedal boat rentals. In addition, Flow and Paddle offers yoga on the water — a unique experience found nowhere else in Sioux Falls!

You can sign up for classes online or through Sioux Falls School District’s Community Education classes. Flow and Paddle also offers a 10-session paddle pass, which is shareable and discounts experiences or rentals. For the past three years, Flow and Paddle has partnered with Friessen Development for a Loop the Lake race in which participants “loop” the lake on a paddleboard or kayak. In 2023, the event added a biathlon option, which included a run around the lake, too.

Lake Lorraine Lake Walk

The paved walking path around Lake Lorraine —the “Lake Walk” — measures approximately one mile. There are a variety of seating areas around the Lake Walk, making it easy to take a stroll. The Lake Walk is open year-round. In the warmer months you can also see the wildlife who call Lake Lorraine home, from geese and ducks to turtles and fish.
